Halloween this week and lots of spooky sequined happenings going down at studio 1. It is always a shame when two of the better dancers are fighting it out. However, it has always happened on every series to date and I would guess it would be the same on the next series. Poor Zoe and Ali in the dance off. I must say you could feel the tension in the studio as the lights went off the couples to see who would be left. We find out the result just before it is announced, so we can get the music ready but we have to be careful that we keep it hidden so one of the couples up on the stairs doesn’t have a sneaky look.

A question often asked is, ”Does bandleader Dave have a collection of sparkly ties”. Dave tells me  “No”, they “appear” in his dressing room. On one occasion a sparkly bow tie appeared along side his normal tie. He chose not to wear the bow tie. Not sure why. It was the usual mix of different styles of music this week. 70’s funk “Shake Your Groove Thing” to classic Paso “El Gato Montes” and some great big band charts. I think a mention to our Brass section about now would be a good thing. Simon Gardener (lead trumpet) Tom Ress-Roberts and Craig Wild (trumpets) Pete Beachill and Andy Wood (Trombones) and Phil Todd, Jamie Talbot and Dave Bishop (Woodwind). They sit at the back of the pit ready to spring to life at a moments notice, note perfect and swinging like crazy.

I think one of the highlights of the show is the pro dances. Wow, the Pro’s rock! This week we had a Flavia, Lillia and Aliona dancing in front of us before they danced through the sparkly fly curtains, a bonus for us you would think, but no, we are unable to watch these amazing dancers as our eyes are glued to the music! Life can be so cruel sometimes.

We are all off to the sea side next week, something dramatic is bound to happen, don’t you think?
